How do I create a finance tracker on Notion?
Yes! You can also create your own finance tracker from scratch. Here's a quick tutorial on how to build a simple finance tracker in Notion.
- Create a Notion account.
- Add a new page and add 3 databases. Start by setting up the databases as tables.
- Rename one of the databases to Income. You will use it to track all your incomes.
- Delete the default Tags property. Add a Date property and a Number property instead. Rename the number property as "Amount" and set the format to a currency.
- Rename the second database to Expense. You will use it to track all your expenses.
- Delete the default Tags property. Add a Date property and a Number property instead. Rename the number property as "Amount" and set the format to a currency.
- Next, rename the last database as Balance.
- Delete the default tag property and the extra row. We just need one row. You can call it Balance, Wallet, or Bank Account.
- The next step will be to interconnect all the databases.
- In the Balance database, add a new relation for the Expenses Database and one relation for the Income Database. Be sure to select "Show on..." to make the Balance appear on the Income and Expense Database.
- Now add two rollup properties. One will refer to the Expenses relation and one for the Income relation.
- The rollup property for both rollups should be set up to the Amount, and Calculate to Sum.
- Next, rename the rollups property to "Total Expense" and "Total Income".
- Next, we need to make sure that any new entry on both Income database and Expense database will connect to the other database for the Balance.
- In both the Income and the Expense database, add a filter for the Balance database and the only property in the Balance database (that you have created at step 8).
- Now, any new entry we will add on the expenses and income database will be added to our Balance database, we just need to add a formula to have the actual balance calculate.
- In the Balance database, create a formula property. The formula should be prop("Total Income") - prop("Total Expenses").
- Format the formula property to currency.
- You're done!
